Honey, I'm Home!

Hey again!

Well, we are finally out of the house and settled into our first campground...Yippee!!! We pulled into the Frontier Campground in Waynesville, Ohio on the 31st of July 2004, which made our first road trip a grand total of less than 25 miles!

As I'd mentioned before, since Mark was called for a job in nearby Cincinnati we have decided to remain in Ohio throughout this year's work season. It is now September 14th, and we have been here about a month and a half. Mark has been working 4 10-hour shifts per week so we've had 3 day weekends free to get out and do things and see places. I think I've seen more of Ohio in the past month than I saw in the first 6 years I lived here!

We finally got a phone line hooked up at the campground so I could keep up with my blog and I've managed to drag myself away from the sunshine and the pool to get my blog caught up. Life is hard sometimes, ain't it? *g*

In the time we've been here we've met some really nice people...a few have been fulltimers and some are just 'regular folks'. We've taken a canoe trip down the Little Miami River with Scott and Sherry, two of our new friends here in the camp. They are not a couple but rather two friends who happen to live here in the campground in a section of trailers and apartments for fulltime residents. We had a great time and Mark and I have discovered that we really enjoy canoeing together; we plan to add that to our list of future activities.

We've also struck up a friendship with an older couple who are workcamping here in the park. Jean and Frank Luneack (probably misspelled) are a retired couple who travel fulltime in their Challenger motorhome. Frank is 72 and Jean is "somewhat younger", but they are such energetic, happy people to be around that I don't think any of us pay attention to the age difference. Mark and I hope to meet more people like Jean and Frank as we travel.

A couple weeks ago Jean and Frank invited us to go to King's Island Amusement Park with them and we had a blast! They weren't sure how long they'd want to stay so we drove separate vehicles, but it turned out that they have as much...or more...stamina than we do! We stayed from open til nearly closing time...13 hours! Frank rode all the roller coasters with us and he had such a great time! We all did! Jean preferred to sit out the coasters, but she did have a blast in the bumper cars and I think she even enjoyed the white-water rafting ride.

This past weekend Mark and I joined some old friends, Mark Camden and his girlfriend, Sue, for an outing to the Ohio Renaissance Faire. I love the RenFests and we had a good time. This was the first time I'd watched them play the Queen's Chess Match and that was amazing...more so to think royalty in the Renaissance period might have actually had this type of sport at their fairs where the "chessmen" actually fought out the moves. I also enjoyed the "Theater in the Mud", which recreated what it might have been like for traveling actors of that period. We did miss the show on swordsmen and the recreated pirate attack, which was a shame...I'm sure we would have enjoyed it.

Now we have decided to slow down our going and spending and start saving some money for our winter travels. We have also decided that this first year we will have to go somewhere and work since I haven't been able to go to work with the Union at all this year. I missed the one call I've had since moving into the motorhome. And at this point it might not pay for me to go to work as we'd have to buy a vehicle for me to drive and sell it when we leave in a few months. I'm undecided on that one...if the Union calls I may have to consider taking the call. We'll see....

To help in deciding where to travel we have joined the Workampers group and are awaiting our first issue so we can see what kind of jobs are going to be available. We are both looking forward to the time we can really take our first real road trip.
