Don't Come Around Here No More

Just when you think there is no God...Deliverance! Fearing we were eternally damned relegated to stay in Carlsbad for the duration, I emailed Fritz. You may remember him as the guy we worked for last summer at Happy Holiday RV Resort in Rapid City. I let him know we were not going to be able to return this summer due to budget concerns. I couldn't justify going north for the summer and having to come back south next winter, only to return north when my court date came in from Social Security. He said he understood & wished us good luck.

Lo & behold, on Tuesday the 10th we got another call from him. He wants us to return to Rapid City & manage his motel for the season! Besides the fact that we get to leave this God forsaken place little corner of paradise, the position is very lucrative. In addition to making good pay, we'll get an apartment to stay in for a year, along with a place to park our rig & truck, for free. We also get the usual perks of workcamping, free laundry, propane, wireless internet, and a store discount!

Why would we want to stay in an apartment, you ask? Well the answer to that is threefold. One, I was afraid that the call to court would come in the middle of winter & I didn't relish the thought of trudging up through the great white north to meet this obligation. Secondly, this hiatus from living in our coach will allow me time to make some changes to the interior that we have talked about, without the hassle of trying to do it while maintaining a livable environment. There is a fairly decent shop on the premises I can use to make what I need. And thirdly, we will make more money there than LeAnna can make here in the same period of time.

Here's the kicker, after Sept. 15th we don't have to do anything with the motel, not even answer the phone! LeAnna will likely find another job for the winter. If all goes well, we may even stay on for another season, leaving in September '08. Hopefully we will be leaving there with not only a replenished bank account, but 2 scooters in a box trailer as well!

More on this story as it develops...
